The 'Westhoek'

If you visit the triangle between the North Sea, France and the Houtland region, you stumble across an unspoilt part of Flanders. There are obviously the scars from the Great War and parts of it are painstakingly rebuilt but the emphasis continuous to be focused on authenticity. The local character remains preserved and the many charms of the area treasured by many. After a visit to the historic towns of Ypres, Poperinghe, Veurne or Diksmuide it is time to relax on the bicycle. Here and there, between te green, flat countryside you will come across tiny, idylic villages.

At dinnertime make sure to sample the local delicacies: 'Potjesvleesch', 'een Schelle van de Zeuge' and any food prepared with hops. If you are thirsty, why not visit a brewery and you can taste one of the many local beers or the aperitif from the border area: Picon. Frankly, the Westhoek is a fascinating region to fall in love with that will leave you longing to come back for more!

Kortemark

On the Eastern border of the Westhoek is the rural and quiet milling town of Kortemark: a collection of small villages with a unique combination of heavenly peace, rich fields, wide countryside and four windmills ... Thanks to its location it is the ideal starting place to discover the Westhoek at your own pace with the many walking routes or cycling routes. After all this physical activity you can recover in one of the many beer gardens with a cool local beer or a tiny glas of 'jenever', the local gin variety. Let there be no mistake, everything is here to make your stay as enjoyable as can be.
